This is something I wrote that’s somewhat speculative. Since this is Utimate Frisbee etc., I figured I’d put some of my writings up to take care of the etc. part.
Why am I always put in these positions? It’s not fair. Then again, nothing ever is. Are men and women capable of really truly being friends without fucking with the other’s emotions? Then again, are any of us really capable of that kind of no strings attached friendship? Sure, but then it’s not really a friendship and it kind of defeats the purpose. The fact of the matter is that we all live and thrive for the angst and drama that is everyday life. Anyone who says they don’t is both a liar and a cheat or on some very powerful medication.

Hi all. This weekend is Mardi Gras! We’re going to Baton Rouge for this annual tournament and we’re all looking forward to it. I personally have a blast every year, so I have no doubt that this year is going to be just as fun. We are playing in the men’s division again this year, so the women are going to have their work cut out for them. We don’t have to play savage again (women played with no subs last year; ugh!) so we’ll probably be cheering our guys on more than being on the field. I’m personally looking forward to the break. I will have a recap about the tournament up Monday, and I’m also going to be recording a podcast with the team titled “The Tournament”. I will hopefully have a podcast of this nature up for each tournament we go to this semester. Wish us luck!

Hey guys. I just heard a great song that I wanted to put up here. It doesn’t really have anything to do with frisbee, but I loved it so much that I just had to share it with you guys. In fact, I’d recommend the whole CD. It’s “Ex-Girlfriends” by Low Millions. This song is called “Statue.” I’ve included the link to their MySpace page so you can hear more of their stuff. Isn’t it great?

Alright, so I don’t know how many of you have heard of Winter League, but if you haven’t I’m here to bulk up your ultimate informational stores. Dallas/Fort Worth Winter League is one of the most important 4 months of the year for some frisbee players. Here’s the skivvy:
Starting in December, the Winter League Poobah (leader or coordinator) drafts at least 8 teams of captains; one female and one male; for each league. There is a Homer league, which is the recreational league, or a Burns league, which is competitive. You may recognize these names from a very popular TV show. About 5 years ago, Winter League had a Simpson’s theme and it just stuck. Now these names are forever part of the ultimate lingo in Dallas. There is then a draft of the players that signed up for either of the respective leagues and the captains pick team names and colors. Then it’s time for the games!
Winter League is an insanely fun time, and ultimate players in the area will talk about it and anticipate it year round. This year’s theme is the 80s. My team is named Fraggle Huck (compliments of yours truly). There is always food, music, *cough* alcohol *cough* and a whole lot of great people. We play every Saturday through March, which is when we hold the big tournament. The location for the last two years has been at the Las Colinas polo fields which has amazing fields. For information on signing up mid-season, please go to http://www.dallaswinterleague.com/. Hope to see y’all out there!

Okay, now this is kind of a far out there post, but, well, I had this brilliant idea at work the other day. Let me back up a little so you know where it came from.
My usual breakfast consists of a slim fast shake. I don’t have a lot of time in the morning, and this way at least I still get my vitamins. Well, it was really cold the other morning, and slim fast shakes have to be served cold (or else they’re just gross). So, as I’m shivering and drinking my ice cold shake on this very cold morning, it hits me. Why not have a breakfast shake you can heat up? Like coffee or hot chocolate? You could even put caffeine in it or whatever other energy boosters, and that way you could have it instead of coffee. Now, tell me that wouldn’t sell. Oh yeah, totally copyrighted by me. At least the idea. I’m sure someone with a lot more resources will do it eventually. Just thought I’d share that with you guys!

Defense and spirit, it doesn’t get much better.

It was freakin cold.

Jimmy going for a disc in the endzone.
We had a lot of fun at this tournament. It’s more about the spirit of the season anyway!
I will have more pictures coming of the tournament later, but hopefully this’ll tide you guys over.

Hi all! I know I haven’t posted in a long time, but with work, school, and everything else that makes you go UGH, it was tough to post on a regular basis. Enough about me though, on to the team!
This past December we went to a tournament called Jingle Bell Hell in Denton. It’s not really a competitive tournament, but we did well (got to the semifinals). It was a good showing for the team, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I have also posted some pictures from the tourney over in the pictures section.
Just some notes on the team this semester:
Practice is still 9-12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Our next tournament is February 17 and 18 in Baton Rouge, LA. It is called Mardi Gras (of course).
More information coming!

Hey all. I’ve been trying to get some photos and video of the team, but my friends seem to be just as busy as I am. Until I can get copies of everything, check out the link below. Jason Mechler, better known as Pokey in the ultimate community does professional photography for the Dallas ultimate leagues. You’ll probably see me in some of these!
